First, this is not a book. It is more like an extended article. You can read the entire thing in 20 minutes, easily. That’s not necessarily a drawback, as you don’t need an entire book to find out how to lose weight. However, I don’t think many people will be losing weight because they read this book. Here’s why:

Most of the content of the book is accurate. However, it really just gives you broad strokes. For example, it recommends that you count calories. If you don’t count calories, your odds of losing weight are low, so the book is on the right track there. However, the author doesn’t go to the trouble to tell you the easy ways to count calories that you are likely to stick to (Mobile device apps and Web sites like SparkPeople).

For the majority of the middle portion of the book, you get a lot of general advice without much in the way of concrete examples to help you start thinking in the right direction. Only at the end of the book do you get some really concrete things to do that might help you lose weight, but once again these points are covered quickly with no examples to back them up and jump start your thinking.

One thing I found as a MAJOR concern in the book was the author’s list of diets. He included the Atkin’s Diet as an acceptable diet. My apologies to Atkins devotees, it just isn’t. It is nutritionally unsound and is not sustainable as a permanent lifestyle. Google it, I’m not making this up. There are any number of scientifically specific articles which show conclusively why Atkins is a bad eating regimen. On the personal side, I’ve known many people who tried it and lost weight in the short term. Within a year they all weighed more than they did when they started it. That is a really strong indicator of a bad eating plan. To include it as a suggestion shows VERY poor research by the author, and a desire to include filler over good advice.

There is absolutely nothing in this book that you can’t find and read in just a few minutes with a Google search.

Getting the correct book to guide you to the start of your path to weight loss is very important. This book just isn’t that book.

This book was pretty good in my opinion, I really learned some neat stuff reading this book. When I bought this book I was looking for a few things like how often I should workout, how often I should eat and portion sizes, the best time to workout and what I need to do in order to lose weight. This book had all those things and more. I even learned about the body and why people should not do starvation diets. Another issue I don’t really like to spend alot of time reading something all day when I can get the same info in a shorter time frame. That’s another thing I liked about this book. It was not 100+ plus pages of the same info stretched out to make the book longer, It was straight to the point.
